Urgent Help with Medical and
created by Islam and Eating Disorders
Health & Medical
Every one of us will at some point in our lives experience some type of hardship or pain that hurts us. It is therefore, important to help others in need and be united. Helping each other is a way to overcome grief that we may experience, and it can empower us in our worship to Allah. One of the greatest human beings to walk the earth and who was also the best example of compassion and kindness in human form, was the Prophet Muhammad (sallalahu alayhi wa sallam). He said:
“Whoever relieves a believer’s distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter. Whoever alleviates [the situation of]one in dire straits who cannot repay his debt, Allah will alleviate his lot in both this world and in the Hereafter. Whoever conceals [the faults of]a Muslim, Allah will conceal [his faults]in this life and the Hereafter. (Muslim)
Dear Honourable Friends,
In the light of recent catastrophic International events, we have been very careful about our fundraising. The priority is always those in need.
Our work Islam and Eating Disorders raises awareness of mental illness in the Muslim World and offers free help and advice. We never take any money for our work or for any other running costs.
We only raise money for people who are ill, under privileged and in dire need of help.
We have two Urgent Appeals. We would be grateful if you could please take out some time to read these appeals. If you can share them, we would be grateful.
Medical Assistance in Africa
We have a sister from Africa who has suffered from her mental illness for over forty years now. She’s a survivor. Her condition is chronic and there’s no help available. We’ve tried all avenues of help to no avail. In 2022, she was in urgent need of medical help and was requested by the International Medical team to travel outside of Africa for treatment. We tried but we were unable to raise any amount. S came down with oral infection last year and infection spread to local tissues her jaw bone tissue and other areas. Consequently this lead to one extraction after the other and by the end of 2023 she had to go through full mouth extraction. S has survived for past three years on very little.
We are raising money for her to get a denture, some food and some medication. S has shown brilliant patience in all this. In 2022, we were unable to get her help because of earth quake in Syria and Turkiye. Now we are faced with catastrophe in Gaza and Yemen and Sudan. InshAllah when S is well she will pay it forward. We would be grateful for any assistance in this case. Getting dentures is very expensive.
A complete set of denturestypically costs between $1,000 and $3,000, with a single denture plate priced at $500 to $1,500. We know this amount is impossible to raise but we still ask you to consider this appeal. She’s an excellent human being but she’s a victim of so many things. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Appeal no 2 for Survival Africa
Our second appeal is also from Africa. A is in her final year of her Post graduation studies. She’s a main bread winner and for past two executive years has been in and out of hospital. The modern psychiatric treatment failed on her. She only has short time left till she graduates. InshAllah once she graduates she will be helping other people in need. She will make a great contribution in field of Islamic Psychiatry Inshallah.
The year 2023 has been a long one, and I have been confronted with a great deal of difficulty. I am healing from an eating disorder and was receiving treatment in a psychiatric ward for a period of six months in 2021, during which time I made the most of the opportunities that were presented to me. I endured a challenging procedure, but I was able to make it through with positive outcomes. My master’s degree in clinical psychology was accepted after I received treatment, and I was forced to relocate from my hometown to a distant region. In spite of the challenges, I continued to bear witness to the voyage. My health began to decline in 2023, and as a result, I was forced to miss both my classes and my practical’s. The ideas of my eating disorder were also sparked by this, and I had to engage in a discussion with myself about how to deal with them. In terms of my finances, I was having a difficult time, and it was difficult for me to make ends meet (even to this day). I have been putting my faith in God, and he has been helping me to make it through this trying time with my health.
Currently, I am attempting to collect the pieces and get back on my feet. I have resumed my studies; however I am currently experiencing a bit of a financial crisis. Please let me know if there are any that could help me get back on my feet and complete my journey so that I can give back by devoting my life to helping other people who are struggling with mental health disorders that leave them paralysed, sad, in conflict, and despairing, and assisting them in becoming healthy, holistic individuals.
