“I am Farheen Hasan and I am a Research Psychologist at Centre for Appearance Research, based at the University of West England (UWE) in Bristol. Our team are experts in appearance and body image. I am currently working on a project to develop body-image interventions for adolescents in India with UNICEF India and Dove Self-Esteem Project.

We are currently conducting a research project exploring the impact of Ramadan on eating behaviors and mental health. We are particularly interested in looking at this among Muslim women living in UK, aged between 18-35, given that young women are at increased risk of experiencing body image concerns. Women who choose to participate would be invited to complete a short demographic survey online which should take up to 10 minutes. We would then be requesting them to take part in 2 interviews, lasting 45-60 minutes each, 1 month apart. In these interviews, we would be discussing their experiences of fasting in Ramadan, and experiences with their mental health and eating behaviors.

Participants who are interested can email me directly at Farheen.hasan@uwe.ac.uk or fill in their contact details here: https://uwe.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bCN5ccoLsIS0GVf.

I am hoping you would be interested in taking part in this research, as this research explores an issue that is under-researched and rarely discussed in Muslim groups. I am a Muslim woman myself, and understand the value of Ramadan, and will be mindful and sensitive in my interaction. We hope that with this research, we can make a valuable contribution to the Muslim community, and encourage discussions around mental health.”

I hope this information is suitable. Thank you SO much for helping us circulate this research. It is an important topic and we appreciate your support.

Lastly, I would be very pleased to discuss our research and findings and/or Centre for Appearance Research’s work more generally if It would be of interest to your members.

Thank you!

Best wishes,

Farheen
