“Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.”

Food as Medicine in the Treatment of Eating Disorders.
Dear Readers,

Food as Medicine in the Treatment of Eating Disorders
The body is an amazing system of balance and can be trusted with the fuel that it is given – a concept that our clients do not believe now but will hopefully begin realizing as they work through their recovery. Helping our clients move from a position of distrust towards food to a position of neutrality is the first big step. Understanding how the balance of food groups work synergistically to heal and restore helps strengthen both emotional and physical recovery and guide our clients to the next step of acceptance. This presentation will discuss this role of food as healing medicine and the relationship between nutrients themselves and the recovery process.
Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
1. Describe how the physiological changes in the initial stages of recovery can be misinterpreted as negative consequences of food only.
2. List the unique roles of the macro- and micro-nutrients within recovery and how they balance each other.
3. Apply creative counseling techniques to guide clients to a better relationship with food and its role in healing.
