Reversing Your Bulimia Techniques Part 2
Bye Bye Binge/Purge
By: Kate Walsh
Last time I gave you 4 methods you can use to reach your mind
on its subconscious level. The 4 remaining techniques are as
following:
5) VISUALISATIONS/ DAYDREAMING/ LUCID DREAMING
6) PRAYERS
7) CREATIVE ACTIVITIES OF ANY SORTS
8) BODY & MIND ACTIVITIES
5)— VISUALISATIONS/ DAYDREAMING/ LUCID DREAMING —
Visualisations, daydreaming and lucid dreaming are
definitively NOT FOR SCEPTICS, but rather for people who are interested in these subjects.
Many of us has the ability to visualise things. Close your
eyes and check if you are able to see pictures (not only
darkness). If you can, you can use this ability to visualise
good positive pictures in your mind.
Try to “see” as many details as you can (if you practise
this, you can even feel warm sunshine on your face, hear
rustle of trees, etc.).
Even if you don’t have this natural ability to visualise
things you can learn how to do it 🙂
So don’t worry if you cannot hold any pictures in your mind
when your eyes are closed! You only need to practice and it
will come.
Good method of practising it, is to look at a very basic, but strong shape for at least 2 minutes (this shape can be for instance white square on black background). After 2 minutes, close your eyes and try to “hold” this image in your head as
long as you can.
Later on, you can start moving this picture around in your
mind (change its colours, etc.). With time you will be able
to see more complicated pictures. When you practise your
imagination, it will grow and eventualy you will be able to
visualise everything…
Day Dreaming is similar to visualisation.
Everybody use to do it in a childhood, when wanting something
very badly. Now you desperately want to be free from bulimia.
Start day dreaming about your life without bulimia.
Think of what will you do instead binging/ purging. The
important thing is to avoid putting negative thoughts and
emotions toward yourself. Use only positive thinking about
happy days that are coming:)
Lucid dreaming is rather advance technique.
I decided to mention this only because you might have this
ability already, so if you have it you can start using it in
your bulimia battle.
Basically, lucid dreaming refers to the ability of
recognition that you are dreaming during night dreaming.
So, if you sleep and you are aware of you dreaming (if you
know that this is “only” a dream and not reality) you are a
lucid dreamer.
Many people had experienced lucid dreams. Many people
mastered this ability and actually “play” with their dreams
in the way they want (lucid dreaming can be mastered
to the point you are very much under control of your own
dreams).
You may ask, why this might be helpful in your recovery?
Well, night dreaming is a subconscious thing. If you can
influence your night dreaming a little bit, you in fact can
influence your subconscious…
And this give you a big potential for healing yourself. But
I will not write about this a lot (as this is a huge subject
itself).
If you are interested in this subject, you may want to learn
more about healing with lucid dreaming. Great book on this
subject has been written by Robert Waggoner (“Lucid Dreaming:
Gateway to the Inner Self”) http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/193049114X/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=bulimiaselfhelp-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=193049114X
6) — PRAYERS —
I don’t know if you are religious? If you
are, you understand the power of prayers.
Start using this power to actively support your recovery.
It doesn’t really matter what religion you follow – prayers
do miracles!
From a “technical “point of view, prayers work like
affirmations, but probably even quicker, because when you
pray, you are 100% dedicated to God.

7) — SUBCOUNSCIOUS ART: CREATIVE ACTIVITIES OF ANY SORT —
Drawing, painting, sawing, crafting, writing, singing,
dancing, playing instruments and thousands of other creative
things you can do and enjoy in your life will definitively
help you!
You only need to know HOW and WHY…
On subconscious level we all know and can do everything: we
all subconscious artists.
Art is something that makes us close to our full potential..
So how can you use art to connect with your subconscious? The
recipe is simple.
All you need to do is to switch off your thinking and focus on what you do.
So forget about “trying hard” to make your painting be perfect
or your voice sounds beautiful… This is not a competition:
you don’t do this to impress anyone!
You do it for yourself. Relax and paint, sign, play, dance…
Remember – No thinking! Just express yourself. You will feel
the energy coming out of you. This is what you need. Art has
incredible healing power.
8) — BODY & MIND ACTIVITIES —
When I say “body and mind activities”, I mean sport. But I
DON’T mean all those kind of sport people do only to lose
weight, build muscles or beat records…
In particular, I mean yoga and different kinds of martial
arts.
Both yoga and martial arts actively use breathing, meditation
and repetitions to approach energy we all have in our bodies.
Through cleaning your mind from thoughts, you open yourself
up and extend your access to limitless power of your
subconscious.
This kind of body & mind training helps in all aspect of your live. You basically learn a new side of yourself. You become stronger and respectful at the same time. You start to understand your body and its needs. You start to act to benefit your health.
With this perspective your binging and purging will go away.
I hope you don’t under appreciate the
methods I gave you. These are all very powerful and will
support your battle with bulimia.
My advice to you, would be to practice from 1 to 3 methods at time (not more!). To see positive effects, you need to put your heart in what you do.
Don’t make yourself promises you cannot keep. Take it easy. Step by step. Make small changes in your life and you will see “miracles” happening.
