We are homo sapiens. We hold ideas and they influence how we act. Sometimes our psychology runs our biology. Look at the behaviour of kids around food. They often need training, and that’s a legitimate part of human development.
People may refuse to eat for trivial reasons, or because of fear, or stress, or feeling uncomfortable with the place they are in. There are a number of things going on.
So why does Allah tell us about eating with servant boys and fine furniture in Paradise, fine cups and plates, nice views, and abundance? Subhaanallah! May Allah save us from the fire and grant us the pleasures of Paradise!
Dear Readers,
Please find below a guest post by Abdullah Reed on Metabolism Research.
Thank you for you this excellent insight and for your reflection. We highly appreciate it.

Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh

I hope you’re well. I’ve listened to a podcast today on metabolism and I have some reflections I thought it might useful to share.
The podcast was about the metabolism wasting under ketogenic conditions. It was not about basic metabolism.
It was not about basic ketogenics, not about basic metabolism, not about basic dietetics, it was not suitable for basic education.
It was a research discussion on a specialised topic. I just listened to it to get some ideas and I did, alhamdulillah.
Issue: Commercialisation of Science
————————————-
In today’s science environment, metabolism research is heavily influenced by product sales.
As an approach, using pharmaceutical products to restore a basic function like eating is not ideal.
Solution: Master the Basics
—————————-
Basic diet therapy is good. Basic. Good cooking is better than packaged product solutions.
Herbals and naturally flavoured items are better than pharmaceuticals. Pharmaceuticals are an option, but they’re not the ideal option. If there’s no other choice, pharmaceuticals can be excellent but they should not replace more wholistic pathways.
Food selection, sound eating according to religious guidance, gratitude, basic scientific understanding, and remembrance of Allah are primary, in shaa Allah.
Allah says, Most Exalted is He,

In The Name of God, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful

Let man consider his food: How We pour water in showers

Then split the earth in clefts And cause the grain to grow therein

And grapes and green fodder And olive-trees and palm-trees

And garden-closes of thick foliage And fruits and grasses:

Provision for you and your cattle.

Abasa, verses 24 -32
We should think about our food. Allah has requested us to do so.
Alhamdulillah. We will develop gratitude for our food if we contemplate it, in shaa Allah.
Our metabolism will improve, in shaa Allah. Allah is The Guide and The Qur’an is a healing for the breast of the believers.
Alhamdulillah.
My Reflections on The Podcast
——————————
The researchers reviewed a Chinese study on metabolism under keto diet simulation. The study was done as an experimental study using lab rats.
They tested tissue changes over time – 2 months for the rats. That amount of time is like 1 or 2 years for humans. It may be outside our normal range of dietary modification. Do we frequently go into ketosis for a year? If we use islamic principles of living, it is unlikely.
They monitored tissue change and bodyweight according to the ketogenetic activity that they induced in the rodents.
The rats were calorie deprived and suffered wastage. They did not experience good health.
Interestingly, during the discussion, one of the American scientists hosting the podcast mentioned that it can be difficult to get lab animals to follow a particular program during experimental research.
I reflected on what she said.
I remembered that as human beings, we have a much more active mind than rats with more variation in thought as well. So when we eat, we have to attain psychological harmony with the activity, not just the feeling of acceptability at the biological level.
Some Science and Religion
—————————-

Alhamdulillah. The total experience of eating cannot be denied. Even though on earth we must learn to eat for the sake of Allah, and how He pleases and when He pleases, because we are slaves, we still have control over our own body and mind.
We can eat knowing that Allah will be the one to reward us, in shaa Allah. We say his name.
In the fasting month I’ve been saying “Allahumma laka sumtu, wa bi rizqika fatartu”.
Conventional Science is Incomplete
————————————
The researchers are not focusing on this enough.
Then they find inflammation in their research animals instead of absorption. Glory be to God. He has created every living thing on the earth and He provides for them all.
The topic of the podcast is atrophy during ketosis.
They conclude that low protein and low calorie input during keto dieting is a problem and will not make you healthy.
