“Anger is like flowing water; there’s nothing wrong with it as long as you let it flow. Hate is like stagnant water; anger that you denied yourself the freedom to feel, the freedom to flow; water that you gathered in one place and left to forget. Stagnant water becomes dirty, stinky, disease-ridden, poisonous, deadly; that is your hate. On flowing water travels little paper boats; paper boats of forgiveness. Allow yourself to feel anger, allow your waters to flow, along with all the paper boats of forgiveness. Be human.”

Dear Readers,
Please find below part 5 in healing series: by our favorite recovery coach Catherine Liberty.
“It’s time to start living the life you’ve imagined.”
― Henry James
Are you watching the Olympics?
The mens acrobatics last night was just amazing.
Kenzo Shiria from Japan did a quadruple mid-air twist. Quadruple! in mid-air!
I didn’t know that was even possible.
And then I started to wonder…
How does someone learn to do a quadruple mid-air twist?
How much practise would it take?
How many times would you get it wrong before you got it right?
How many times would you be willing to face plant the mat before you gave up?
How much pain, struggle and effort would you be willing to endure?
Day after day, after day, after day, after day, after day…
Until one day… you win the gold medal at the Olympics.
It’s amazing what we can achieve when we are committed, focused and dedicated.
And these are essential skills for recovery from an eating disorder.
In recovery at times you will stumble,
At times you will have setbacks,
At times you will get it wrong before you get it right,
At times recovery may feel impossible.
Your commitment will be challenged,
Your resolve will be tested,
Your dedication questioned.
But…
If you don’t give up,
If you keep dusting yourself off and getting “back on the mat”,
If you stay committed, dedicated and focused to recovery…
You will recover.
It may take 6 months, 12 months, 18 months or even longer…
But eventually
You will succeed.
You will recover.
You will win.
And I’ll bet that winning at recovery beats winning at the Olympics.
You will be winning your life back.
That’s that best type of medal you can get.
“No, this is not the beginning of a new chapter in my life; this is the beginning of a new book! That first book is already closed, ended, and tossed into the seas; this new book is newly opened, has just begun! Look, it is the first page! And it is a beautiful one!”
