I know that my spirit belongs to the Spirit of all Spirit. I know that I belong to the city of those who have no place. But to find my way there I need to let go of my knowing.

Dear Readers,

It’s with great sadness I share with you the news of passing of Sidi Daniel Abdal Hayy Moore, a brilliant US poet. He was battling cancer. His last CT scan showed cancer in his bone. Even in pain, Sidi Danielle taught us about divine love, courage and hope. His Facebook posts and his blog bears testimony to this.  Today  I would like to share his last poem  ‘The Fancy Dancer’.   I know many of you have been battling your illness for a very long time now. For some every day has become a struggle, a day with no light, no hope You didn’t expect this illness to  overtake your life, but some how it has. Now it seems like a bad dream you can’t wake up from… It seems unfair.

And yet it’s incredible to see how your spirit strengthens and your resolve grows strong, you continue to fight.  You will be brave.  You will walk in courage.  You will pray during the nights and days the pain seems unbearable.  And you will continue to clutch hope, even when you feel like you can’t go on.

Don’t forget there’s light at the end of tunnel. My message: You are amazing. Don’t give up. Keep fighting.

FANCY DANCER

dervish sufi

The cancer I’ve been dancing with
(and cancer’s a fancy dancer)
has overcome its scruples
and wants to marry me.

I’ve rebuffed it once or twice now
but its piteous face puckers
and tears fill its eyes
with the thought of losing me.

I’m almost past objecting
so I must take some time
(not to think it over —
no time for that)

but to prepare for our love bed
in the depths of our deepest love nest
in as great a comfort as possible
for the long duration

Inalilahi

For me the province of poetry is a private ecstasy made public, and the social role of the poet is to display moments of shared universal epiphanies capable of healing our sense of mortal estrangement—from ourselves, from each other, from our source, from our destiny, from The Divine.
