Muslims have been using and promoting the use of the “Black Seed” or “Al-habbat ul Sawda” for hundreds of years, and hundreds of articles have been written about it. Black seed has also been in use worldwide for over 3000 years.

For thousands of years, humans around the world have recognized the tremendous healing properties of a legendary herb – Nigella Sativa, or Black Seed.

The protective and healing powers of Black Seed, the seeds from the plant Nigella Sativa, are so astoundingly comprehensive and varied that for thousands of years humans have regarded it as a “Miracle Cure”.

I was researching alternative therapies for Eating Disorders last year, I read Aubrey Westlake with a greater interest. I tried my hand at few  therapies and with time I’ve become a great fan of natural therapies and remedies. Recovery from an eating disorder is progressive and can be a lifetime journey. I came across the magical properties and benefits of ‘Black Seed Oil’ last year. I used حبّة البركة to treat many problems that came with my anorexia nervosa, mainly anxiety, depression, loss of appetite, dry skin, brittle hair, insomnia and loss of memory. Black seed is a plant of the Prophet Muhammad, as it takes a special, unique place in the medicine of the Prophet Muhammad, mentioned as a “cure for all diseases“.

Most individuals with eating disorders have mild to serious medical conditions directly related to their behaviors.

Junemann and Luetjohann (1998, page 105) suggest ½ to 1 teaspoon (5ml) 3 times a day.



Anemia-Take a branch of mint (Mint Leaves) mixed with water, boil it and make a cup of juice and add half tea spoon of Black Seed oil and use this mixture twice a day (once in the morning and second time in the evening).  Treatment may continue for 21 days.


Amenorrhea- Black seed oil contains fatty acids, vitamins and minerals in a unique cell structure. Use as a healthy dietary supplement.
Backache & other kinds of rheumatism

Mildly heat a small amount of black seed oil and then stroke the rheumatic area intensely. A teaspoon of oil should also be drunk three times daily.


Take ½ teaspoon black seed mixed with honey and warm water every morning before breakfast

Mix 2 cups grounded black seed and ½ cup pure honey. Take 1 tablespoon of mixture with 1 cup warm water every morning before breakfast. Mixture can last 15 days and have to be kept in cool temperature.

Dental Problems- erosion of tooth enamel, severe decay= Take one cup of curd and half teaspoon of Black Seed oil and use this mixture twice a day (once in the morning before the breakfast and second time after dinner). Also use Black Seed herbal tooth powder.

Diabetes- The use of black cumin reduces the level of sugar in the blood, and thus once again confirms the fact that this blessed herb is an excellent remedy against many diseases, including diabetes. Type 2 diabetes – Researchers found that just two grams daily of black seed could result in reduced fasting blood sugar levels, along with decreased insulin resistance, and increased beta-cell function in the pancreas.

Dyspepsia, Flatulence, Stomachaches, Constipation

Black seed Oil is beneficial for the digestion. It contains saponin, helianthin and nigellin that have great qualities to clean the intestine and increase urine secretion, therefore, improve toxin elimination. Black Seed Oil stimulates digestion and helps evacuate gases from stomach and intestines. Recommended use: take 2 capsules or half teaspoon (2.5ml) of Nigella Sativa Oil morning and evening during 2 weeks.

Dry Skin

Mix honey with ¼ teaspoon black seed and take it first thing in the morning before breakfast.
General health

Take 1 tablespoon blackseed oil morning and night, or at least in the morning before breakfast on its own or with 1 teaspoon pure honey.

General Tiredness

Take 2 capsules or half teaspoon (2.5ml) of Black Seed with an orange juice for 10 days to recover vitality and make general tiredness disappear.

Headache: Rub the Black Seed Oil on the fore head and near ears and also drink half teaspoon Black Seed Oil twice a day.

Hair Treatment: Ingredients: one tablespoon of black seed, juice of arugula and apple cider vinegar, 100 ml. of olive oil. Seeds are mixed with the juice of arugula and infuse for 10 minutes. Add apple cider vinegar and olive oil and mix. Pour into a bottle.Depending on the length of hair you rub the head 1-3 tablespoon. Leave for 20 minutes and then wash your hair as usual.

Hair loss: Take one teaspoon of black seed and make the head massage with a mixture of black seed oil and olive in the ratio of 1:1, three times a week with a mixture and do not rinse for 10 minutes (after which the head can be washed with shampoo) in the morning and evening .


Hair Loss:Rub lime juice on the head and leave it for fifteen minutes, then wash it with shampoo, after getting dried rub Black Seed oil all over the head. It’s said that hair loss will be controlled within a week. Treatment may continue for one week.

Headache, Earache

Apply Black Seed Oil on the forehead, temples, sides of face adjacent to the ears and behind the ears, depending on the pain. Also take 2 capsules or half teaspoon (2.5ml) of Black Seed Oil morning and evening for a few days.


Black Seed Oil is a natural remedy for hemorroids. Recommended use: take 2 capsules or half teaspoon (2.5ml) of Black Seed Oil morning and evening. Avoid spicy food.

High/Low Blood Pressure- In any hot drink tea add half teaspoon of Black Seed oil and use this mixture twice a day also eat two cloves of garlic Daily.


Take half teaspoon of Black seed oil with any hot drink at any time. Take 2 lobes of garlic on empty stomach. Apply Black seed oil to your whole body and expose it to the sun every three days, continue the treatment for a month.

Immune system:

Take 1 tablespoon day and night.


On the evening take 2 capsules or half teaspoon (2.5ml) of Black Seed Oil with herbal tea and a teaspoon of honey will help you sleep more easily.


2 capsules or half teaspoon (2.5ml) of Black Seed Oil, taken with mint tea has beneficial effects on memory.

Protection Against Heart Attack Damage – An extract from black seed has been shown to possess heart-protective qualities, dampening damages associated with heart attacks and boosting overall heart health.


1. Rinse your mouth with a mixture of cumin and cider vinegar.
2. Mix ground black cumin and olive oil to form a paste and apply it on the affected tooth.
3. Boil eight ounces of apple cider vinegar with two tablespoons of ground black cumin. Drain. Rinse your mouth with the resulting liquid for a few days.
4. Rub the affected area (teeth and gums) with a few drops of black seed.

Vomiting: Take one spoon caration powder and half teaspoon Black Seed Oil and boil it. Now in this warm mixture and Mint (Pudina) and use thrice a day.

Remember:A teaspoon of black seed oil mixed in a glass of orange juice with breakfast makes you active all through the day. A teaspoon of black seed oil mixed in a hot drink after supper gives you a quiet sleep all through the night.

  1. Hey Mark. Good to see the old Kimberley shots refrusacing again. That was indeed a great day especially as Rainor and I had a bit of fun getting that hero shot of you and Christian. If memory serves me the dood in the shot was Don from Queensland. I remeber him not being too fond of flying and heights. It's amazing he even went up there. I also remember flying out of the Mitchell Plateau in a Chieftan with him in the back saying "this is not good, THIS IS NOT GOOD" Thanks for bringing back all the good memories mate.
