IF YOU UNDER EAT, YOU WILL BINGE.

This will happen to ANYONE on the planet.

In order to stop bingeing you needed to STOP RESTRICTING.

Binges can occur from even gradual, minor under-eating over a period of a few days.

Ali Kerr

“You will never have a greater or lesser dominion than that over yourself…the height of a man’s success is gauged by his self-mastery; the depth of his failure by his self-abandonment. …And this law is the expression of eternal justice. He who cannot establish dominion over himself will have no dominion over others.”

Has your willpower ran out?

Ali Kerr Bulimia Help

I was thinking about New Year’s Resolutions last night. We feel so energized and motivated at the start of the month.  “THIS year will be different” we promise ourselves. We’re all fired up and raring to go.

It’s the same reason why gyms are so crowded. Unfortunately, most gyms are a ghost town by the end of January because all that motivation has vanished.

This is why relying on motivation is not a good strategy. It’s like relying on willpower. They’re both fleeting and end up with us being frustrated, disappointed and unhappy with ourselves that we can’t stick with it…yet again.

If the date on the calendar is the only thing changing then you can’t expect to change for the long term.

I don’t want 2018 to be just another year that comes and goes for you. Your health is too important.

If you find yourself bingeing on food, relying on willpower to stop isn’t going to work.

If you restrict your food intake ( i.e you diet or don’t eat enough for your needs), your natural defense mechanism, which ensures you eat enough will be triggered.

This natural defense mechanism creates an overwhelming desire to binge on food. And this is extremely powerful. I mean really ridiculously powerful.

It originates from a primal part of our minds. It overrides our logic and willpower. You have no choice in this.

Once this is triggered you will eat food.

And probably eat lots of it.

No matter how hard we try our primal desire to eat will override our desire not to eat.
(please read the above sentence again)

Willpower is useless against the binge urge.

The fact is, willpower is only good for short term goals and it only works for so long.

No one – anywhere – has enough willpower to continually resist the urge to binge forever.

Eventually you WILL give in.

You have been genetically programmed to binge on food after restricting.

It’s the same primal force that compels us to breathe after holding our breath for any length of time.

It hijacks your body and mind. In a way its more powerful than you.

So, stop berating yourself for a lack of willpower or a lack of strength and determination. You have ample willpower, ample strength and ample determination.

So let’s be really, really clear on this.

IF YOU UNDER EAT, YOU WILL BINGE.

This will happen to ANYONE on the planet.

In order to stop bingeing you needed to STOP RESTRICTING.

Binges can occur from even gradual, minor under-eating over a period of a few days.

So how much food do you need to get through the day?

That’s something you will have to work out for yourself.

Personally I don’t go under 2200 calories a day, this suits my needs. I’m 5’2 female and relatively active.

However, it’s important to understand that everyone is different and not one size fits all.
You may need to adjust up or down.

A rule of thumb, if you are still experiencing intense binge urges after a few weeks then try and up the amount you eat and see if you notice a reduction in your urges. This is usually a sign that your body is needing more nutrition.

What this boils down to is that it is going to be impossible to stop binge eating on 1500 calories a day if your body’s requirement is over 2000.

Yes, impossible.
