“In cattle too you have a worthy lesson.  We give you to drink of that which is in their bellies, between the undigested food and blood: pure milk, a pleasant beverage for those who drink it.”

(Quran l6:66)

Dear Readers,

Today I present to you Milk from the kitchen of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

“There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colors, in which there is healing for people.  Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.”

(Quran 16:69)

In our recovery we are inspired by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Heal your Eating Disorder by Eating and Drinking from the Kitchen of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

Milk is No 1 Food in Recovery

A top top top food in recovery from all Eating Disorders. Without Milk your recovery is impossible. One thing I find quite surprising when I speak to people in recovery is how Milk in particular forms little part of Eating Plans. people are not getting enough milk in their diet. I had no milk in my diet for like 10 years. In Eating Disorder unit, I had no choice in this matter, milk was must. Now I cannot emphasis on importance of 3-4 servings of milk a day. This is a vital fuel for body.

Qur’an talks about Milk. Drinking Milk is also a Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). I was sent an article by a young person in Malaysia on how Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) drank Milk. I’ve taken snippets from the article. It’s written by  Bin Gregory.

Milk and Honey. Symbols of  purity and goodness from Biblical times, they are promised in abundance in the Paradise Hereafter.

Milk honey

(Here is) a Parable of the Garden which the righteous are promised:

In it are rivers of water incorruptible;
rivers of milk of which the taste never changes;
rivers of wine, a joy to those who drink;
and rivers of honey pure and clear.

(Quran 47:15)

Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, spoke of milk in the highest terms. When given something to drink, he taught us to pray for blessing from what we drank and pray for better than it in future. But when given milk to drink, he taught us to pray for blessing from it and pray for milk in greater abundance in the future, for nothing satisfies like milk. (Sunan Abu Dawud)

Raw Milk

Raw Milk

The milk that the Prophet drank, peace be upon him, was squeezed directly from the cow (or goat or camel!) and drunk fresh. There’s nothing synthetic or fortified here.

The Benefits of Raw Milk

I attended a seminar couple of months back on ‘Curing Tooth Decay,. what I found remarkable about that seminar was how Ramiel Nagel spoke about healing properties of raw milk. According to Nagel ;

“[I]f the people only will eat Nature’s food, produced in completely fertile soil, in ample variety, and will drink plenty of whole raw milk, produced from fertile pastures, they can avoid toothache and most other aches that commonly plague mankind.

There are hundreds of other benefits of drinking raw milk, following the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

Raw milk is a complete source of amino acids, good carbohydrates, and important nutrients such as calcium and vitamins A, C and D. Your body needs the fats in it to properly use and absorb the fat-soluble vitamins A and D. And it has the phosphate your body needs to digest the calcium, something that’s completely destroyed by pasteurization.  In USA it’s illegal to sell raw milk. Here in UK we have regulations regarding the sales and distribution of raw milk mainly because the milk has not been heat treated and may therefore contain organisms harmful to health. But it’s still available for purchase.

Using Raw Milk in Recovery

Here in Pakistan I drank Raw Milk. In order to do this I had to stay in our family village. I consumed fresh raw milk every morning and evening. I didn’t experience any digestive problems. In fact it really helped with my health problems. I saw the benefits for myself. My skin improved and it helped with my bones and teeth. My oral health really improved.

We all have different digestive systems. I would encourage you to seek advice from your doctor, dietitian if you want to incorporate raw milk into your recovery plan. Chances are they’ll say NO. But there are other ways in which you can use raw milk in recovery from eating disorder. See below.

Using Raw Milk to Reverse Some skin Hair Damage

In Recovery Milk is a Top Food.

Milk

According to ayurveda, milk provides special and unique nutrition that cannot be derived from any other type of food. Milk, when digested properly, nourishes all the tissues, promotes balanced emotions, and helps to balance all the centres.

A Proper/Holistic Way to Drink Milk

In order to digest milk properly, one should avoid drinking cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up, and then bring the heat down so the milk is on a slow boil for about 5 to 10 minutes.

Flavour Your Milk if you don’t Like the taste of it.

Milk spices

While heating it, you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of ground black pepper, a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce the heaviness of the milk and reduce any mucus-causing side effect.

A Great way to incorporate Milk in your Diet

If you have not consumed it for a while, then it is recommended that you start in a gradual fashion to help your body acclimate to it. Start with drinking ⅛ of a cup of the boiled milk with ginger. Then gradually increase the amount to about a cup over a ten-day period. Then start incorporating 3-4 servings of milk a day in your diet.

Breakfast

  • Start your day with a delicious fruit smoothie made with milk. Mix 1/2 cup (125 mL) fresh or frozen strawberries, peaches or banana chunks in a blender, with 1 cup (250 mL) milk, and 5 – 6 ice cubes. Blend for 20 seconds.
  • Note: Omit the ice cubes if you are using frozen fruit.

Smoothie

  • Be sure to add 250 mL (1 cup) of milk to your cereal.
