“The seven ascending heavens and the abundant earth, and all countless beings therein, declare His Glory, and there is not a thing that exists that does not celebrate His Praises .”
Holy Qur’an 17:44
Please find below a fantastic video by Ihsan Alexander. The original theme of video is ‘Consequences of being tuned into Dunya/World’. The message is timely and can be applied to our Eating Disorder. I hope it will help many of you to see there are greater ramifications for being tuned into our Eating Disorder. I was sent this quote by a reader;
“If you can quit for a day, you can quit for a lifetime.”
– Benjamin Alire Sáenz
I truly believe we all have the power to beat this illness. Please don’t fall into despair. There’s light at the end of tunnel. Keep trying, keep taking steps forward. God heal you and be with you.
The Consequences of being tuned into Dunya
Eating disorders profoundly impact an individual’s quality of life. Self-image, relationships, physical well-being and day to day living are often adversely affected. Eating disorders are also often associated with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and personality disorders. Bulimia nervosa may be particularly associated with substance abuse problems. Anorexia nervosa is often associated with obsessive-compulsive symptoms. The scope of related problems associated with eating disorders highlights the need for prompt treatment and intervention.
It might be said that there are two worlds. The world of formal appearances and the world of matter, the world of form and the world of space, the world of illusion and the world of reality, the world of consciousness and additionally the world of super conscious or this vicinity inside which everything shows as individual, we are typically tuned to the physical world, to the world of appearances.
Our whole center and consciousness are taken up by this world of appearances, the world of substance, the world in which everything shows, shows up, happens and exists and what happens in the event that we lose contact, we put some distance between the world of cause, from which everything, exudes, from which everything begins? – The source, the space, the vicinity which everything shows thus, we lose ourselves and we put some distance between reality, we get to be devoured by a world of constant emergencies, chroma and anxiety, tension and stress because we are no more associated with our source, to the source inside.
This can lead to an eating disorder and such disorders affect you negatively as against the plan of Allah concerning our lives.
When we tune into this external world, the world of forms, the world of appearances, Dunya, there are particular things that start to happen to our mind and/or consciousness. The best place to solve our problems is through the hearts and this is the only weapon Satan uses to fight. When that place is cleansed, then the outward appearance seem to be let loose to normal functionality and this in turn leads to a free life void of any form of eating disorder. That is an ultimate thing- freedom. So, thrive hard to win the devil from your heart. Don’t forget from earlier post that man is of different being and can be influenced from both physical to the spiritual and vice versa.
It matters how I look and how I look in outside world. It’s truly sad, but I feel my worth depends on my appearance and my weight. Last night I spent over 2 hours getting ready for formal soiree. As I was leaving my house, I saw my cousin and her friends, they looked better. Their outfit were better and more expensive than mine. My best friend had lost weight and looked so good. I felt cheap, out of place and ugly. I made the excuse and retired to my bedroom. I cried for hours and hours. I thought about praying, but couldn’t bring myself to pray or to pull myself out of my misery. It sounds petty, childish, but I want to make an impression when I’m outside. I just want to fit it. People judge us on how we look, our appearances really do matter.

We start to feel apprehensive because we start to see ourselves as partitioned from everything else as independent from the universe, separate from the entirety.
We put some distance between God, we lose our association with our source, so we normally start to be anxious. This thing then results in anxiety and despair and nervousness and stress, sadness, despondency, in misery and despair and in every negative experience and feelings when we free touch with our source, when we loose association with our source.
We get to be lost in the world of form, in the world of illusions.
The best practice is to focus on your heart on your inner self. We all want to free our minds from ED matrix. We all want to let go of dualistic attitudes and ideas.
Dear Readers, there are more lethal and more profound consequences to being tuned into our ED. There are devastating health and psychological consequences, but there are also consequences for our spiritual life. It’s very hard to tune into anything when your next thought is negative and about food, calories and weight.
Set aside an hour in a day for meditation for your inner healing completely away from the Demon of ED and its demands.
تَفَكُرْ سَاعَةٍ خَيْرٌ مِنْ عِبَادَةِ سَبْعِينْ سَنَةً
“Tafakkur sa’atin khayrun min ‘ibaadati saba’in sanatin”
“Reflective thinking for one hour is better than 70 years of supererogatory worship.”
Prophet Muhammad (saw)
While meditating, the individual shuts out all forms of outside stimuli and focuses their gaze inwards so that they can explore themselves and achieve an intimate relationship with their soul. Once you make that connection, you’ll come to a greater realization, there’s more to life than your Eating Disorder, there’s more to life than the demands of Dunya. There’s more to life than world of appearances.
By gaining a better understanding of your true self, you will develop a much stronger connection to the universe; to the life that surrounds you in all forms. By improving your spiritual understanding and overall emotional well being, you will find that you are able to enjoy life to a much fuller extent.
ALL Eating Disorders are Dangerous
It is important to understand that even though a person may be suffering specifically with Anorexia, Bulimia or Compulsive Overeating, it is not uncommon for them to exhibit behaviors from each of the three. It is also not uncommon for one Eating Disorder to be swapped for another (Example: a person who is suffering with Anorexia switches to Bulimia; a persons suffering with Compulsive Overeating switches to Anorexia)
