These are real ordinary women, serving our world, community and their families. I believe their lives can inspire many of us in our journey to recovery and self-discovery. They changed their lives, and the lives of others, by giving love, showing generosity, compassion and being part of something larger than themselves. They Inspire Change and Lead by Example. Look around you, and you’ll find many people who can inspire you in your recovery.

Dear Readers,

It was International Women’s Day this weekend and I would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the incredible impact all women have had on the world and on our lives. Today, I would like to honour an inspiring woman of achievement , a passionate campaigner, who has dedicated her life to improve the lives of people affected by Cancer: Dottie Hook, Chairperson of  the ‘New Approaches to Cancer’.   She is a standing example of what selfless service means, indeed a great role model to help inspire future generations.

International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8 (initially called International Working Women’s Day). In 1908 in New York 15,000 women marched through the city demanding shorter work hours, better pay, voting rights and an end to child labour. The owner of the factory where these women were working, trying to avoid publicity of their action, closed them in the factory. Unfortunately, fire broke up and 129 women died. To commemorate this day, in 1910 Socialist International in Copenhagen established International Woman’s Day.

Here’s my best wishes to all of you on International Women’s Day!

ANACNew Approaches to Cancer (ANAC) is a charity offering help and support to both cancer patients and their families. It was formed in 1969 by two doctors and two healers who wanted to teach people the benefits of complementary medicine. New Approaches to Cancer promotes the benefits of complementary therapies and holistic treatment for cancer patients and their carers. All its services are free of charge. Today the charity is leading the way in support and help for families and strives to help people all over the country.

I first met Dottie  in 2007 when I was looking for voluntary work. I was aiming for position at the United Nations and thought some work with Cancer Organization will further enhance my complicated Resume. I was fortunate enough to get accepted as a volunteer for ANAC, and one has to be there to witness how much organization does for the people from all walks of life.

I wanted to shadow and learn from this lady who selflessly helped anyone and everyone who approached her for help. She is a force for change. Dottie sees hope and life in each and every person she comes into contact with. She helped me to believe in myself and be the person that I want to be. She radiates love, sincerity and simplicity and follows a simple mission to help people to defeat cancer.

Give your body the attention it deserves and you’ll be rewarded tenfold. When we treat our bodies as temple, we obtain physical, emotional, and spiritual blessings.

Dottie’s over 70 but has a strength of a lioness.  I look at her and I look at her approach to health and well-being and I get inspired. Each time distorted thoughts on body image cross my mind, I think of this amazing woman, who has given so much to the world. In my later years, I aspire to be like her.

She has bestowed many miracles upon my life. When I was diagnosed with Anorexia. She was one of my main pillars of support and strength. It wasn’t just the love she gave, she also taught me about holistic approach to health and well-being. She said it’s never too late to change, adopt and reap the health benefits.

My immune system was super weak, and she introduced me to Super Foods, Raw Juicing, taking Selenium, Zinc, Potassium, and Copper for immunity.   Wheatgrass synergy, Seagreens, Vitamin B, Nuts, Fresh Fruit and Vegetables, they worked miracles on my mind and body. It was this brilliant approach that helped me in many ways to overcome this debilitating illness.

The body and the mind are closely inter-related and both derive sustenance from food. Therefore, food has considerable impact on the character and destiny of the individual. As the food, so the mind; as the mind, so the thought; as the thought, so the act. All that is perceived by the senses constitutes ‘food’. For the Sadhaka (spiritual aspirant), the intake must always be Sathwic, i.e., pure and moderate. The sounds, the sights, the impressions, the ideas, the lessons, the contacts – all must promote reverence, humility, balance, equanimity and simplicity. It is only the Sathwic ‘food’ that will keep the mind on an even keel, fully concentrated on the Atma on which one must contemplate in order to attain peace.

She encouraged me to do gentle yoga and it really helped to calm my mind.

She taught me about beauty of woman, to live, to love and to embrace life.

The Beauty Of A Woman

The beauty of a woman
isn’t in the clothes she wears,
The figure that she carries,
or the way she combs her hair.

The beauty of a woman
must be seen from in her eyes;
Because that’s the doorway to her heart,
the place where love resides.

The beauty of a woman
isn’t in a facial mole;
But true beauty in a woman,
is reflected by her soul.

SIt’s the caring that she cares to give,
the passion that she shows;
And the beauty of a woman
with passing years only grows.

You too can can leave a legacy of Giving

I often thank my illness, if it wasn’t for my illness, I would never have had a privileged opportunity to connect with such a brilliant woman and her network of people. Her generosity and kindness inspires me to be a better person, to never lose hope and to help anyone and everyone who comes my way.
