Eating Disorder Recovery Ramadan Power Punch Drinks with Wheatgrass Synergy

This Ramadan Drink yourself to Good Health. I find Smoothies excellent source of nutrition in Ramadan. The Key is to make one Fresh on the day and have it throughout the evening. When you’re recovering from an Eating Disorder, you’ll find that your digestive system is not working optimally, this is because digestive enzyme levels may be deficient, resulting in poor digestion. It takes up to one year to get your digestive system to work properly and this can be so depressing. In Ramadan our digestive system also slows down. Therefore it’s pivotal that we eat foods that are rich in fiber and nutrients. It is often said that everything comes from the gut and therefore if there is a problem in the gut, the whole body will be adversely affected. Through these smoothies you’ll be able to obtain the nutrients your body needs for the month of Ramadan.  Don’t forget that vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids and many more are primarily obtained from the foods that we eat and fluids that we drink. So this Ramadan, Drink yourself to Optimal Health.

Your Healthy Friend This Ramadan

We live in times, especially here in the West, where you can enjoy the taste of any fruit/vegetable all year around. But such luxury is not available in many parts of the world. My mother taught me one valid lesson always use what’s fresh and what’s in the season. So be creative, if your kitchen does not have certain fruit/vegetables mentioned below then replace them with what’s available.

Power Punch Michael Straten

Here’s another super-vitality juice with plenty of essential nutrients and some surprisingly potent natural phytochemicals from the coriander and spinach. It makes an excellent drink after a long-day of fasting, since it provides a boost of instant energy from the natural sugars in the carrots and kiwi fruit. It is also a good source of potassium- so important for electrolyte balance.

Vital Statistics: The vitality drink provides a double dose of beta-carotene and potassium from the carrots and kiwi fruit, along with extra magnesium and plenty of vitamin C. The spinach adds extra carotenoids and a powerful boost of cancer-fighting plant chemicals. The coriander contains heart-and circulatory protective coumarins, and an effective antiseptic essential oil called linalool.

Ingredients

Carrots                                4 trimmed and peeled unless organic

Kiwi Fruit                            1 unpeeled

Fresh Coriander                1 small handful, with stalks

Baby Spinach leaves         1 handful

Wheatgrass                        1 shot, 5mg/1tsp (optional)

Method

1-      Put all the ingredients through a juicer, reserving a few coriander leaves, if desired.

2-      Mix well and serve with the coriander leaves, if reserved, on top.

The Glowing Green Smoothie

This is amazing. I had it last Ramadan.  According to Kimberley Synder: “The most powerful way to up our mineral consumption is to consume a plant-based drink every day, by either blending or juicing vegetables and fruit together.

Ingredients
1½ cups water
1 head organic romaine lettuce, chopped
½ head of large bunch or ¾ of small bunch organic spinach
3–4 stalks organic celery
1 organic apple, cored and chopped
1 organic pear, cored and chopped
1 organic banana
Juice of ½ organic lemon

Optional:

1/3 bunch organic coriander (stems okay)
1/3 bunch organic parsley (stems okay)

Preparation

Add the water and chopped head of romaine and spinach to the blender. Starting the blender on a low speed, mix until smooth.

Gradually moving to higher speeds, add the celery, apple and pear. Add the coriander and parsley if you choose. Add the banana and lemon juice last.

Horse Power

Instant Stimulation, with the blood cruising through your veins, you’ll be ready for anything.

Simply Amazing. I took this from Michael van Straten’s Book last year. I added some fresh mint to it for extra power and some wheatgrass. In the original recipe, you get lots of pulp and a very little juice. I added ½ cup of ice and ½ cup of water to make it lighter. This is brilliant and instant benefits are felt the moment you consume this power-pack drink.

Vital Statistics

This super juice is bursting with good stuff. It is super rich in vitamins A, C and E, potassium and vitamin B6. It also contains some calcium and traces of other B vitamins. With just under 300 calories a glass, it’s a good quick-energy source. In addition, horseradish contains the natural substance singrin, a powerful antibiotic that also protects against infection.

Horse Power

According to Michael, It may sound simple, but this classic apple and carrot mixture sprinkled with horse radish is fuel for anyone. As well as the instant energy derived from the natural sugars in the carrots and the apples, it features a whole lot new dimension courtesy of horseradish. You’ll get a very little juice and lots of pulp from horseradish, but what you do get is instant stimulation of the circulation.

Ingredients

Carrots, 4 trimmed and peeled unless organic

Apples, 2, unpeeld, uncored and quartered

Fresh Horseradish 85g

Wheatgrass Synergy 5mg

Ice ½ cup

Water ½ cup

Fresh Mint few leaves

Method:

Put all the Ingredients through a juicer.
